Welcome

The Dome is the center for youth-focused innovation in the Greater Springfield Region.  We pursue connected learning by linking mentors and students in a space rich with new media, maker spaces and educational technology.  We are a hub for the creation of our future workforce and a symbol of the revitalization of our community.  We engage local businesses and community organizations to build meaningful connections with students.  By providing students the freedom to choose from a range of personalized, mentor-supported and interest-driven learning experiences, these connections strengthen and grow.

We give students the opportunity to develop skills through hands-on real-world experience with experts in a variety of fields.  Here, students are surrounded by like-mined peers, opportunities to connect, and a trustworthy support system.  We provide them the tools and confidence they need to grow in a space where they can be themselves.

Check out the links above for YOUMEDIA SPRINGFIELD (a space that caters to students in grades 9 - 12) and MAKE:SPRINGFIELD (a space that caters to students in grades 4 - 8).

While The Dome, Springfield's Center of Innovation, is owned and operated by the Springfield City School District, we aim to serve all curious learners, educators, and community partners in the Greater Springfield region.   We do this in many ways: we open our informal learning spaces to all, we host focused programs and events for groups with particular interests, and we rent or lease space to other educational organizations.

We thrive on collaboration, and we're proud to be

  • Hang out in YOUmedia, our after-school space just for high school students.

  • Tinker and dabble in our middle school makerspace, Make: Springfield.

  • Bring your class, team or group of any age on a field trip to learn about science, technology, engineering and math.

  • Create art in our welding or woodworking shops.

  • Host or attend a workshop in our professional learning suite.

  • Reserve a conference room for 10 or 100 people.

  • Play a role - on stage or behind the scenes - in our 689 seat John Legend Theater.

Curiousity, Collaboration, and Community are our motivating values.  We're open to conversation about how we can support your goals.
